When Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) hit in 2009, we had to evacuate when the Marikina River overflowed. I live in Rizal, near Laguna Lake. We were flooded here for three whole months.
When Typhoon Ulysses (Vamco) hit yesterday, we were so scared that we might have to go through what we experienced during Ondoy. Thank God, we didn’t. All the projects of our LGU to rehabilitate and develop our rivers here really did pay off. Unfortunately, many families had to relive that nightmare. Houses are submerged in water that people got trapped on the roofs. People drowned trying to save their loved ones. They are all rained on while trying to wait for rescue. This is the 4th typhoon to hit the Philippines in less than a month alone. All of this while we are barely surviving through the pandemic. Yes, we are resilient, but this is not easy. We need all the help possible.
11 years ago, I was 16. I didn’t know how to help, especially when we were also directly affected. I didn’t have a laptop. We didn’t even have Wi-Fi at home. Now, I am privileged enough to even be posting this. Sure, I might not have all the means to make a massive help or impact. I don’t even have much money left to donate. But I have my laptop and Wi-Fi. Above all, I have my words. Please allow me to make use of my love for poetry to help the victims of Ulysses.
For every cup, I will write a short poem.
- Buy me a coffee here: https://ko-fi.com/whenwordsblend
- You can leave me a message and tell me which word you want me to include in the poem or anything you want me to incorporate in it: a certain feel, vibe, etc.
- Let me know where to send the poem. You can leave a private message in my Ko-Fi account, leave it in the comments below, or email me.
All proceeds will be donated to Youth Advocates for Climate Action Philippines. I hope you can help me with this!
For donations for the casualties of #RollyPH, my team and I over 5 Seconds of Summer PH are also doing a donation drive. You can check it out here.
